President’s Message
As we close out another incredible year, I find myself reflecting on the moments that truly define our club—and for me, many of those happened alongside you on the mountain, on the trail, under the stars...and yeah, a few bars.
This past year gave me the chance to experience two of our signature ski trips—Taos and Copper Mountain. Each had its own personality, but what stood out most wasn’t just the snow deficit or the high winds closing down the chair lifts—it was the camaraderie. Whether it was sharing a lift with our G.O.A.T. Billy, regrouping at the end of the day, or enjoying our evening gatherings, those trips reinforced what makes this club special: we don’t just travel together, we connect.
And then there was the Davis Mountains State Park trip—our first, to my knowledge, three-night adventure of its kind. From the moment the tiger tail was flying proudly from the flag pole of our RV, it was clear this was going to be something different. The chili cookout “huddle,” the laughter, the star-filled skies, and that 7 mile hike that turned out to be 9, reminded us that adventure doesn’t require snow—it just requires good company and a willingness to try something new.
And it’s not just about the memories—it’s about the momentum behind them. This past year, more than 200 member experiences were shared across our ski and international trips, with strong participation in destinations like Steamboat, Taos, and Copper Mountain. With 160 active memberships and more than 248 members, it’s clear that Los Amigos continues to grow—and thrive.
As I complete my first term as President, I’m honored to continue serving for another 12 months. I’m grateful for the strong foundation we’ve built together and for the opportunity to keep that momentum going. I’m especially pleased that much of our experienced board will continue, providing continuity, while also welcoming new perspectives that will help us keep evolving.
Please join me in welcoming Diane Carl as our new VP of Communications and Carol Johnson as our new VP of Membership. I’m excited about the energy and ideas they bring to the board.
You’ll see in this newsletter and in our annual membership meeting follow-up sent out last month that our members are engaged. The strong response to our “By the Numbers” report tells us something important—you care, you’re paying attention, and you’re invested in the success of this club. That engagement shows up across everything we do. From hiking and cycling to brunch, trivia, and wine gatherings, our growing lineup of interest groups continues to create new ways for members to connect beyond the slopes. And with multiple trips already building momentum in pre-registration for the coming year, excitement for what’s ahead is just as strong as the memories we’ve made.
As we look ahead, there’s even more to be excited about—including the launch of a new pickleball interest group early this fall, led by new member Chuck Divelbiss. It’s just one more way we’re continuing to expand opportunities for members to stay active and connected. And with multiple trips already building momentum in pre-registration for the coming year, excitement for what’s ahead is just as strong as the memories we’ve made. A quick reminder that membership renewal begins May 1—current membership is required to register and participate in trips per our Bylaws, and your continued involvement is what keeps this club vibrant and growing.
Finally, I want to echo the gratitude highlighted at the top of this newsletter—thank you to Cara Peterson and Charles Peterson for their service and dedication. Volunteer leadership is the backbone of this organization, and we’re better because of it.
Here’s to another year of adventure, connection, and making memories—on the slopes, on the trails, and wherever we gather next.
